How to Transfer a Firearm to or from Red Circle Tactical


Buying a firearm out of state and need it transferred into Michigan? Or need to ship one to another state? Red Circle Tactical is here to help.
We handle inbound and outbound transfers for both standard firearms and NFA/Class III items (silencers, SBRs, etc.).


✅ Before You Buy a Firearm Online


Before purchasing a firearm online, make sure the item is legal in the state of Michigan.
If you’re unsure, contact the Michigan State Police Firearms Division for confirmation.

🧾 Firearm Transfer Requirements in Michigan

  • You must have a valid Michigan driver’s license or state ID with your current address.
  • As of 02/13/2024, if you are purchasing or transferring a handgun and do not have a Michigan CPL, you must first obtain a License to Purchase (LTP) from your local police or sheriff’s office.
    This does         not apply to:
  • Rifles
  • Shotguns
  • Frames/receivers
  • Firearms longer than 26"



💰 Firearm Transfer Fees

Handgun, Rifle, Shotgun, or Frame/Receiver
$60 for the first item
$20 for each additional item (if transferred at the same time)


International students, out-of-state residents, or unique citizenship cases
$100 for the first item
$20 for each additional item (if transferred at the same time)


NFA Items (Silencer, Short Barrel Rifle/Shotgun, AOW)
$120 per item
$240 per item for international or special citizenship cases


Machine Guns
Fee is based on the value of the item and handled case-by-case


Trigger Lock (if not included with firearm)
Starts at $12 per lock (required by Michigan law)


Incoming Transfers from Certain Sellers (e.g., Bud’s, GrabAGun, etc.)
$75 flat fee (see below)


⚠️ All incoming firearms must include a trigger lock.
If one is not provided, you must purchase one from us per Michigan law. You may also bring your own with a receipt (dated less than 30 days).

🔄 Accepted Transfer Sources

  • We only accept incoming transfers from federally licensed firearm dealers (FFLs).
  • We do not accept any transfers from private individuals.
  • We only accept shipments via UPS or FedEx. No USPS.

🔁 Standard Firearm Transfer Process (Non-NFA)


  1. Buy your firearm online and choose Red Circle Tactical as your receiving FFL.
  2. Ask the seller to send us a copy of their FFL and ship the item to us via UPS or FedEx only.
  3. Once your firearm arrives:
  • Please allow at least 1 business day before coming in (we need time to log and inspect it).
  • You will complete a 4473 form and pass an NICS background check.
  • If you need an LTP (License to Purchase), get it before visiting us.

🎯 Once approved, pay any applicable fees, buy a lock if required, and you're good to go!



✈️ Outgoing Transfers (You’re Shipping to Another State)


We can also ship firearms to other states on your behalf.

Requirements:


  • The firearm must be legal in the receiving state.
  • You must provide the name and contact info of an FFL dealer willing to receive it.
  • That dealer must send us a copy of their FFL.


Cost:

  • Our normal transfer fee, plus shipping and packaging (quoted based on size and destination).



🔇 NFA / Class III Firearm Transfers (Silencers, SBRs, Machine Guns)


  1. You purchase the item from a seller out of state.
  2. Have the seller send it to us via UPS or FedEx, along with their FFL and SOT.
  3. We notify you when it arrives and set up an appointment to complete the ATF Form 4 with you.
  4. You'll need:
  • Fingerprints (we make an electronic version for you AKA EFT)
  • Passport-style photos (we take the photo for you)
  • Completed paperwork (we file via ATF eForms)
  1. Wait for BATFE approval. This can take several days to several months.
  2. Once approved, we schedule a final visit for:
  • A 4473 form
  • Payment (if applicable)
  • Pickup of your item — no additional NICS background check needed.
🔐 If you're transferring to a trust or corporation, the original purchaser must complete the paperwork in person.
🔫 Machine gun transfer pricing is determined case-by-case due to the item’s high value and storage liability.

🪖 Military Transfers

Active duty military personnel with orders can receive handguns, even if they’re not normally Michigan residents. The ATF treats this as temporary residency.
